Artist’s Statement

I am an artist based in Dublin, working in the realm of contemporary painting. Integral to my practice is my desire to visually communicate the things that sing to me, and the elements that resonate with me in my natural environment. Weather, sky, sea, stones, shells, plants and the natural cycle of growth, death, decay and renewal are all reflected in my work. My art is a translation of my natural environment into an abstract composition, responding to nature in all its forms.

Working mainly with acrylics, inks, watercolour and gouache, my work informs a methodology where colour, line, shape, texture and pattern reflect both the delicacy and the grandeur of the natural world.

Working in layers, my process is slow and contemplative. It is important to me to sit with the work and listen to it. I makes it my own by exploring and adapting media with many different tools, making the artwork that I want to make.

A core part of my practice is going out on location, observing and being present, responding to nature in all its forms. I gathers stones, shells, seaweed, leaves, petals and twigs and brings them back to my studio. Photographs and sketches further inform my work. Working in this way I directly connect back to my natural environment.

About Me

On completion of a BA (Irish and Geography) and a Hdip in Ed in UCC, I taught in an international school in Madrid. I began studying ceramics while living in London, but my true passion, painting, was always calling me!

My painting practice has consistently evolved since 2005. I held my first solo exhibition, The Symphony of Colour, at the Dun Laoghaire Art Gallery in 2015. My paintings have been included in many group exhibitions.

I held my second solo exhibition at the Signal Arts Centre in Bray in 2024.

I am professional member of Visual Arts Ireland. I am also a member of Artnet DLR. I was an artist in residence at the Cill Rialaig artists’ retreat on Bolus Head , County Kerry.

I am passionate about the therapeutic benefits of making art. I completed a diploma in Art Therapy in 2015 and following on from these studies, I created the Let It Flow workshop. I enjoy facilitating and sharing my love of painting and the creative process with others. I currently run the workshop from my studio in addition to my painting practice.
